Jesus describes two ways to live, two kinds of builders — those who hear his words and put them into practice, and those who hear and do not. The difference between them is a foundation that is only revealed when the storm comes. The world offers foundations that feel secure in fair weather — the promise of relationships, career, health, and comfort — but such foundations prove shaky and cannot hold when the floods rise. The reality of life under the sun is that no one escapes the storms of grief, loss, and finally the greatest test; the day of God's judgment. Because Jesus himself willingly endured the ultimate storm of the Father's wrath at the cross, everyone who builds their life on him is hidden, sheltered, and safe — anchored to the one Rock that no storm can ever shake.
