Whether we realize it or not, we are all “religious” in the sense that we all have something of ultimate concern to us. Focusing our attention on what is of ultimate concern determines who we are, our motivations and the course of our lives. In Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus challenges us to make God and his kingdom our ultimate concern. By so doing, we are set free from laying up earthy treasures to live lives of generosity in pursuit of treasure which truly lasts.
