Familiarity can be a very subtle danger for followers of Jesus. Every Christmas season, we read a lot of the same passages, sing the same songs, and celebrate the same traditions. None of these are bad things in and of themselves, but it can be easy to forget the significance of what we celebrate if we’re not careful. This week, as we look at Matthew 1:18-25, we are brought back to the basics of our faith, remembering who Jesus is and why he came.
