Sometimes when reading the Gospels, we might find ourselves admiring Jesus from a distance. In Matthew 9:35-38, we are confronted with the reality that the Kingdom of heaven has come near in the person of Jesus Christ through his authoritative teaching and mighty works and that this reality demands a response. Will we admire Jesus from a distance, or will we put our faith in him, follow him and join him in his mission? This text invites us to join Jesus as we see people, lead with compassion and pray to the Lord of the harvest.
