Matthew 4:1–11 shows Jesus being tested in the wilderness to prove His identity as the Son of God and His victory over temptation. Where Adam, Israel, and each of us have failed, Jesus resists the devil’s temptations by trusting the Father, refusing shortcuts to provision, safety, and glory, and standing firm on God’s Word. Because Jesus is victorious, He is both the Savior we need and our friend who helps us in the face of temptation.
