Greater, Righteous, Beloved
Matthew 3:13-17—Like a royal herald announcing the entrance of coming monarch, John the Baptist prepares the way for Jesus’ arrival. As Jesus enters the scene his baptism serves as the public inauguration of His earthly ministry revealing that Jesus is God’s great, righteous, and beloved Son. Jesus humbly identifies with sinners to fulfill all righteousness as our needed representative and substitute. As the Father declares His pleasure and the Spirit descends, we see Jesus as the beloved Son—God’s promised King and Servant—calling us to believe, worship, and trust in Him.
